Director Business Development Norway

Scandic Hotels is always seeking talented people to join our team to take us further, and there is now an open position as Director Business Development, based in Oslo.

 

We are looking for an experienced, pro-active and ambitious leader to drive our Business Development function forward.

Director Business Development Norway (DBDN) is responsible for contracting with regards to lease agreements in Norway – new builds and take-overs, as well as managing the current contract portfolio in Norway. This involves the proactive pursuit of new opportunities (new hotels and major extensions), and renegotiation of agreements (leases).  DBDN is responsible from a “lead” / news about a new hotel opportunity until signing of a binding agreement. DBDN produces business cases (with input from stakeholders in the Group Portfolio Team and Norway Management Team), decision material together with the Business Development analyst for the Scandic Investment Committee and board and leads the negotiation of the lease agreement. DBDN shall follow the Scandic Property Strategy (SPS) and lease guideline in the work of enhancing and optimizing the value / quality of the Scandic Portfolio.

The successful candidate will be a part of Group Portfolio Development team at Scandic Group Head Office in Stockholm, and report directly to Vice President Business Development at Scandic Group Head office in Stockholm. The Portfolio Development team consists of Business Development, Analysis function and Technical Services.
The position has its daily base at the Norwegian support office (Head office) and will work very closely with the Norwegian Mangagement team.

We believe that extensive real estate knowledge, a huge network within the professional real estate market, lease agreement knowledge and excellence negotiation skills is outmost important  to succeed in this position.

Key Areas of responsibility

  • Director Business Development Norway is responsible for entering into and the renewal of Scandic leases and management agreements in Norway
  • Most importantly to find new hotel opportunities, do market studies, hotel analysis together with analyst, negotiate lease agreements, business cases and board presentations in order to get approval to sign binding agreements.
  • Do business cases together with analyst for major extensions as well as negotiation of the conditions for these.
  • Monitor and manage the lease contract database in order to renew hotel / agreements in due time
  • Follow the Scandic Portfolio Strategy when pursuing new opportunities and choosing /prioritizing among several business cases.
  • Follow the lease guideline when analyzing business opportunities and producing lease agreements in order to enhance profitability and flexibility as well as limiting risk

The perfect candidate

The perfect candidate has a strong track record as an assertive leader who sets clear direction, provides a good balance of autonomy and accountability to engage the team to deliver results. 

To take on this role, we expect the right candidate to have the following critical experience and capabilities:

  • Experience from similar or related roles with strategic, tactical and operational responsibility
  • Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability and personal style to inspire and drive results
  • Self-motivated, with strong and good leadership skills and the ability to work pro-active and efficiently
  • Strategic mindset, analytical and data driven approach, with an operational focus with a business-oriented perspective
  • Several years of professional work experience from real estate, brokerage or hotel real estate  development.
  • Extensive Lease Agreement knowledge
  • Extensive network (developers, hotel real estate investors, contractors, hotel operators)
  • Expertise of business needs and the ability to translate demands into requirement
  • Have a preference for and ability to plan ahead and drive continuous improvement

  

When it comes to education, we expect higher academic degree from technical or business university.

On a personal level, the Director  Business Development Norway  must be open and curious and have a friendly and cooperative attitude.

Furthermore, you should have the ability and willingness to invest to stay on top of both operational and organizational matters in the fast-growing company, Scandic Hotels

The position is located at Bryn in Oslo, Norway.
